Stalked on a Komodo beach
Two dragons were on the beach. One of them turned to face me as I laid in the sand. I don’t have a large, telephoto lens, so I must rely on close encounters for great photos. The lizard began walking toward me. I was ten feet away when I snapped this photo before jumping to my feet. I backed up, ditching my tripod and hat. It continued to follow me. Both my guides were occupied with another. The two animals separated us. At that moment, I was alone with nothing between me and the dragon. As I continued to back up cautiously watching the lizard, it eventually lost interest and stopped following.
