21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Stampede
As the sun was rising over the valley in Yellowstone, a herd of bison came running down a hill into an open meadow. The herd moved as one, with the young calves keeping up with their mothers. The unison of the herd was amazing, as was all the dust they kicked up in the process.
