13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Staring in the Face of a Lion
I volunteered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania for three months at a school for children who are deaf. On a long weekend, I decided to take a 3-day safari. We came across a pride of lions when I shot this photo of a young male lion who is growing a mane.
