S.T.E.V.E (Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancements), the swirling ribbon of gas, only, but not always, accompanies the aurora borealis. The green vertical hash marks are picket fence auroras. Which only, but not always, accompany S.T.E.V.E. with the big dipper peaking through.
