Still Burning
Since the introduction of gas oven, kitchen- the most important room in a Buddhist Ladakhi household – has undergone a complete make-over. One of the last few traditional ones still survive in Tyagar, Nubra. Locals claim the stone-made stoves were brought to the village by Balti traders more than four centuries ago.
