Despite the large patches of clear blue sky shining down at me while doing vegetation surveys at Babcock/Webb Wildlife Management area (near Punta Gorda, FL), it was obvious a storm was approaching. All morning I could hear the distant rumblings of thunder and feel sudden gusts of wind rustling the tall Slash Pines. But because I was neck deep in thick understory surrounded by a wall of pines, I didn't have an opportunity to see a proper landscape view of the area until I got in my car to return home. At one particular clearing I was amazed at the scene unfolding before me: dark storm clouds corkscrewing along a row of distant pines with a rich field of grass in the foreground. Upon closer inspection i noticed a small path had been formed in the grass, perhaps a deer and its fawn had traveled that way earlier in the day. I just love the composition of the shot and how the clouds follow the path of the pines, all running perpendicular to the small pathway forged in the grass.
