14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Street Artist, Costa Rica

The small tourist village was very busy. Situated at the sidewalk, the street artist looked like a homeless guy but younger and cleaner. He was extremely focused on his project. It was a black walnut shell he picked up from under a tree, and he intended to make a turtle-shaped pendent out of it. The finished pendent would sell for $5. Sweat beads forming on his forehead and sawdust flew everywhere. Many tourists passed him and did not stop. Can he sell some to buy a dinner tonight?
