This a view to Steep Holm, the small island in the distance. It is located in the Bristol Channel in the west of England and separates it from South Wales across the water. Despite being only a few miles wide the weather on either side can be very different, with the Welsh side being more prone to clouds and rain. I believe this is what leads to some really dramatic skies and sunsets. This is just one of a series of photos which feature views to Steep Holm taken from Weston-super-Mare which has the second highest tidal range in the world. When the tide is out wide mudflats are exposed beyond the sand beach. Their irregular surface create random patterns of reflected light. Also puddles or water running down the beach reflect the sky light.
