Sucevita Monastery

Dominating the landscape of Sucevița village in Suceava County, the Sucevița Monastery (Mănăstirea Suceviţa) is the largest and most complete of the Painted Churches of Moldavia. Built in 1585, the Orthodox convent is encircled by imposing, high defensive walls and corner towers, giving it the appearance of a medieval fortress. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features exquisite exterior frescoes, painted around 1601, with a distinctive emerald green as the dominant color.
