Sun pillar in Curitiba

A sun pillar is an atmospheric optical phenomenum created by ice crystals in the clouds. It appears like a vertical pillar of light. The reflection of sunlight on the basal faces of the ice crystais is responsible for this, just like the light pillars created on the sea surface when the Sun or Moon is rising arise from the reflection of the sunlight or moonlight on the water surface.
