Sunrise over Dewees Island, South Carolina
This is truly a hidden gem off the Charleston coast of South Carolina. A 20 minute ferry ride from the Isle of Palms, this island is for the conservative minded family. There are no cars, restaurants or stores. Only golf carts and homeowners who are focused on preserving nature and leaving a small footprint in times where people tend to not care. The island boasts a reverse osmosis water purification system, on island waste recycling, and homes that are eco friendly. The wildlife is plentiful, the beaches pristine (only 3 shells per person is suggested to take home) with stunning sunrises on the beach and equally gorgeous sunsets over the marsh.
