20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Sunrise over Lake Michigan
This is one of the most beautiful sunrises I have witnessed over Lake Michigan. I took the photo while in northern Chicago, at the border between Rogers Park and Evanston. I didn't see a soul in sight, aside from the occasional passing bird. The water was peaceful and placid; the sun full and life giving.
