On a recent visit to Florence, I sought to capture the elements of the city that make it famous, but at times of day when the crowds hadn't yet descended and the city still felt just for its residents. This photo was taken just after sunrise, when the piazza in front of the Duomo was mostly empty. The majesty of the marbled Duomo and the way the sun shone right between through its elements to silhouette these two men walking by felt special and timeless the instant and made it.
