In 2017, The Erta Ale lava lake started to leak on its flank and a river of lava appeared. It took months for expeditions to try to get close to this river. In January 2018, I was part of the first expedition which was able to reach the other side of the river where this shot was taken. On the right and side, the Erta Ale lava lake appears on the photography. A few weeks later this river of lava disappeared, so this picture is unique.
