Superbloom at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve
San Diego saw a lot of rain during the 2022 fall and winter season. In the spring, all that rain produced a super abundance of flowering plants. The "superbloom" was in evidence at the Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve - a 2,000 acre coastal California State Park which is one of the most spectacular and wild stretches of land on the Southern California coast. I took this photograph along the Guy Fleming Trail looking out towards the Pacific Ocean. I have lived in San Diego County and have been visiting this state park for 25 years and have never seen as many wildflowers in bloom as I did in the spring of 2023.
