On the evening of August 31, 2023, which marked both Merdeka Day and the appearance of a supermoon, I was perched on a hillside with friends, cameras at the ready for this extraordinary double celebration. The day had been hazy, casting doubt on our chances of witnessing the supermoon. As 7:45 PM approached, our moon tracking apps indicated the moon had already risen, leading some photographers to pack up and leave. But I stayed, having been there since 4:00 PM, determined to capture the moment. Then, through my 600mm lens, I spotted a sliver of orange light on the horizon. My heart raced with anticipation, and then there it was: a massive, blood-red supermoon ascending rapidly into view, visibly striking even to the naked eye. I sprang into action, snapping photo after photo, moving to different spots to follow its ascent. The experience was exhilarating, a truly unforgettable photographic adventure.
