Surgeon
The neurosurgeon Marco Mejía operates on a baby that is inside his mother's womb. Through an incision in the uterus, Dr. Mejía performs a thorough surgery on the fetus's spinal cord. The little one has a congenital malformation called spina bifida, which will bring serious complications in his future life, such as not being able to walk, not controlling stool and urine, and developing hydrocephalus. With the operation there is a 50% chance that these problems will be eliminated. The operation is carried out at the National Maternal-Perinatal Institute, in Peru.
