Surma woman

At a young age, to beautify themselves for marriage, most women in the past have their bottom teeth removed and their bottom lips pierced, then stretched, so as to allow insertion of a clay lip plate. However, at the present time, globalization and exposure to the western world is leading to the abandonment of this practice by the young women who reject it and the older ones who are asahamed of what was initially a symbol of beauty.
