This is a scanned solarized print from a painting depicting Susanna and the Elders, a biblical story from the Book of Daniel. While she was bathing, old voyeurs came to Susanna and threatened to tell everyone she was with a young man in the garden unless she agrees to have sex with them. She refuses and finally the elders are put to death. I felt that the way in which Susanna refuses to give consent echoes well with the struggle for women’s rights centuries later.
