Sustainable Agriculture in Cuba

I am in a Master's program at Antioch University New England and last spring I signed up for a Food Systems of Cuba class. This class involved a ten-day trip to Cuba to study sustainable agriculture. This farmer was the head of a large urban farm cooperative in one the poorest sections of Havana. This trip took place just after President Obama announced his plans for renormalization with Cuba. This trip could not have come at a more opportune time. Everywhere we visited, we volunteered to help however we could. We left gifts of sewing kits, silk scarves, school supplies, health and beauty aids and spare clothing. I think Educational Travel represents the best in sustainable travel. It is more of a cultural exchange than just regular consumer tourism.
