Tabuik

Tabuik is a local celebration in commemoration of Ashura, the death of Imam Hussain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, which is done by the Minangkabau people in the coastal areas of West Sumatra, particularly in Pariaman. The festival includes re-enactments Battle of Karbala, and plays tassa and dhol drums. Tabuik is the term for a bier carried during the procession ceremony. Although beginning a Shia ceremony, but the largest population in Pariaman and other areas that perform a similar ceremony, mostly Sunni.
