Tails of Darkness
Pantanal, Brazil. After a few days of jaguar photography during my last trip to the Pantanal, I decided to focus on caimans. The way they are lit by the early morning sun was simply magnificent. We left camp early and headed toward Corixo Negro. It was still dark when we got there. We proceeded very slowly careful not to disturb the perfect stillness of the water until we found a few caimans. We stopped the boat and waited for the sun to come up. I focused on a particular individual who was totally under water except for part of his tail that was nicely reflected by the still water. As soon as the first rays appeared the caimans lit up. I took a photo making sure to underexpose.
