Take Off

The San Diego River is one of my favorite places to bird and take photographs, in part because it hosts large numbers of migrating birds during the winter. One January morning, I went there intending to photograph a pair of nesting Osprey. Instead, a few Brown Pelicans flew into and out of the river trying to catch fish. I used my camera to track them, hoping to capture them in action, but the light was too bright to get what I wanted. I waited until I saw one of the pelicans fly under a bridge. The bridge wall darkened the background, but the pelican was still in the bright sunlight. I clicked my shutter button.
