22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Tamale Safalu

Tamale Safalu trains in front of his home in Kampala, Uganda. Since he was little, he wanted to become a body builder. He succeeded but got a terrible motorcycle accident, causing him to loose one of his legs. Despite losing his leg, Tamale did not give up on body building. He now competes against able bodied people. He became the first athlete ever in Africa to compete against abled bodied athletes.
