14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
tête-à-tête
This is a street in Valiangadi, Malappuram. This probably was a thriving bazaar about fifty years ago when people lived at the back on top of the shops. Now there are no shops left and only a street filled with coloured houses. Many have only women in them as the men have gone to work in the Gulf. Two women having a chat is what I captured. Notice that these Muslim women wear the traditional attire of Muslim women in this area and not the hijab or burqua.
