23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
The arches of Notre Dame cathedral, Paris.
I had visited Notre Dame numerous times, but this was my first visit since the church's disastrous 2019 fire. I was amazed by the beauty of the building's restoration, which included removing centuries of soot from the interior walls. This photo shows the symmetry of the church's arches in all their gleaming glory.
