Spawning is a fundamental biological process that even the world of snails must go on. Not only positioned at the bottom of the food chain, but snails are also getting a bad rap, as we speak of snail pace, snail mail, etc. But do they ever move when you want them to slow down or stay still. Perchance I came across this snail (unfortunately, I am not able to identify its species), and observed the intriguing process of egg hatching. If only we can all slow down and observe and understand the intricacies and essentiality of life this world would be a better place. Snails are more than just a shell. Like trees they are a form of carbon sink by virtue of the calcium carbonate content of the shell. The copious number of eggs that one snail hatches as an insurance of continuum of a species conjures up the thought of vulnerability and fragility of all living things.
