The begging giant
This photograph, taken in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province near Yala National Park, captures a wild elephant accustomed to the risky ritual of waiting by the road to beg food from passing vehicles. Over time, locals and tourists have fed these elephants, conditioning them to approach cars and expect food. This behavior poses significant threats, as it disrupts their natural foraging habits and increases the risk of human-elephant conflicts
