The Capitol Columns on a February afternoon

The Capitol Columns at the National Arboretum in Washington, DC, were originally part of the U.S. Capitol when it was built in 1828. However, when an addition to the east side of the Capitol was constructed in 1958, and the columns needed to be removed and were later repurposed at the arboretum. In their current location they provide a space where visitors can meditate in a calm setting away from the hustle-bustle of the Capitol, a mere two miles away.
