The Castle of the Feathered Serpent

El Castillo or the Temple of Kukulcan (a plumed serpent deity) stands majestically at the archaeological site of Chichen Itza located on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The Pyramid still stands today despite being built by the Mayans sometime between the 9th and 12th centuries CE. There is reason for El Castillo’s adornment on the cover of ‘1001 Amazing Places You Must See before You Die’. The rich history of the Mayans and their mysteries radiates through the stones and pyramids that have outlived them. It is truly a sight to see and will undoubtedly stir the imagination.
