The place is a private Catholic School in São Paulo city. Here in Brasil is very common to meet cleaning ladies named Mary (the most popular name in the country). There is a sarcastic joke people do when someone is doing any sort of cleaning job (washing the dishes, cleaning the house for ex.) which is to say "so, you are playing Mary!". This kind of service is extremely belittled around here. It's almost something about people's fate. Along with this, people here tend to be very religious and to resign themselves to their condition or destiny.
