The Darkest Oser
Every year in Herefordshire, England, the Darkest Oser emerges for Samhain: an ancient Gaelic festival which marks the end of the harvest and the beginning of the darker months. This Oser is border morris and folk group Blackthorn Ritualistic Folk's interpretation of the Dorset Ooser which was a similar beast first brought to public attention in 1891. The Dorset Ooser's origins and meaning have been disputed by folklorists however some believe it to either be a representation of the Devil or a pre-christian fertility deity.
