The Devotee

In Kolkata, on each Friday, devotees come flocking from the nearby rural areas in order to earn a livelihood. They are mostly from Vaishanv community singing songs on Lord Krishna, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, etc. These Songs are known as Kirtan. They go door to door in the old Calcutta, pleasing people with there "Naam Gaan" song of the lord and in return they are given token of appreciation. Colloquially it is known as "Bhikkha" i.e. begging but somewhere it is entirely religious affair. In past they used to take "shidhey" which is raw rice and vegetables given as token of appreciation. But in recent times it is has been replaced by money.
