17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
The flying saucer
This scene had a strong surreal flavor with its dark field of lava rocks, the phosphorescent green of the pine leaves and the massive, disk-shaped structure at the horizon. I was standing on the western slopes of Tenerife and the island in front is called La Gomera.
