14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
The former Buffalo State Hospital
South side of the iconic Buffalo State Hospital, now know as the Richardson Olmsted Complex. Construction began in 1870 on this asylum designed by Henry Hobson Richardson with input by Fredrick Law Olmsted and Dr. Thomas Story Kirkbride. The complex was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986 and is currently undergoing a restoration to the central 3 buildings.
