21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
The Greatest Show on Earth

On an enchanting evening at Vestrahorn in Iceland, nature treated us to a brief yet intense spectacle. The Vestrahorn Mountains stood as silent witnesses to a magical show in the night sky. The aurora, like a fleeting artist, graced us with its vibrant hues for a moment that felt suspended in time, only to vanish as swiftly as it had appeared. It was a truly ephemeral dance of lights, leaving an indelible mark on our memories.
