A large portion of my recent career as a photographer has been creating what I call Photo Luminism imagery. That is, images created from electric lightscapes I make and movement of the camera and/or the lights after dark. This particular image came from a desire to have those unique characters interact on an emotional level with a human, but in a slightly surreal situation. By having the guardian child 'play' with the human child as her mother watches over them both, we are given a feeling of both wonder and benevolence.
