On the Flickr photosharing site there is a weekly challenge to take a photo representative of the week's topic. The topic for the week of this picture was: Proportion. A couple of years before, I attended a lecture by the great portrait photographer, Platon. I was fascinated by his use of wide angle lenses for portraits. I had not seen this before and until the day of this photo, had not ever used this technique. My thought was to take a picture of my friend, a talented painter, with emphasis on his hands, out-of-proportion to his body both in size and focus.
