We were riding in a pick up on a bison ranch in Western Nebraska. The manager of the ranch took us to this old homestead, abandoned many years ago, representing what it took to settle this part of the country. Author Mari Sandoz's home was not far from this site. Word is that she once crossed the property to go to a favorite lake.
