The Hour of Recalculation
Siti Mardiyah (Kholifah) stands beside her daughter Mitha Maulidia's grave in Malang. Her grief represents the private sorrow of 135 families. She will return again later today. Mitha was one of the 135 people killed on October 1, 2022, in the Kanjuruhan Stadium tragedy, where authorities fired chemical tear gas into a locked, overcrowded arena. This singular act of a mother's constant presence, visiting Mitha's resting place multiple times every day, is more than grief. It is a terrifying, continuous act of devotion that holds the system accountable. This photograph is the unbearable quiet after the screaming stopped, a permanent, living monument to the lives lost to preventable failure.
