The house and the lady, both bedecked to welcome the man of the house

I was on a visit to a santhal village in Purulia, West Bengal, India during the Bandhna festival. Bandhna is one such festival, where house decoration forms an integral part along with other rituals. This makeover of their mud houses is known as ‘Saharay’. In Saharay, the outer walls of the dwells is painted with brilliant colours made out of natural dyes. The tools for the drawings are only the gentle fingers of the ladies of the family.
