15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
The infamous Skull Rock at Joshua Tree National Park.

My boyfriend and I were driving through Joshua Tree National Park for a while, looking for Skull Rock. We found a campsite that had a 1.5-mile trail leading to the spot, but we didn't feel like making the trek. We got back into the car and continued driving, then we suddenly came across it on the side of the road! What a convenience!
