21st Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
The Island of Scopello
I discovered this island off the coast of Sicily whilst a guest at a wedding. The image shows the ruins of an ancient castle. The island used to produce huge amounts of tuna but in recent times has on occasion been a venue for weddings and films.
