The Keeper of the Hills

An elder from the Ati tribe of Loay, Bohol. His calm gaze carries the quiet wisdom of a people who have lived close to the land for centuries. This portrait was born from a conversation — a meeting of respect, curiosity, and shared humanity. I met him while visiting the Ati community in Loay, on the island of Bohol. He sat quietly under a palm hut, his presence grounded and serene. Before taking this portrait, we talked — or rather, we tried to, exchanging gestures, smiles, and fragments of words. In his eyes, I saw both gentleness and endurance, the story of a people living humbly within nature, yet often forgotten by the modern world. This image is my way of honoring that meeting — a silent exchange between worlds, built on mutual respect.
