The Ladies Bridge

March 2022 marks the 80th year since London’s Waterloo bridge opened for users to head southbound. But over the years, many miss the beauty in this bridge itself because this bridge happens to be a magnificent place to view some of London’s most iconic buildings from the River Thames; so many will choose not to focus on the grey architecture, and it night, it was too dark to see anything. I say “was” because in 2021 Waterloo Bridge was gifted with a new lighting display so for the first time ever, now you can stand underneath this bridge and really see this bridge at night from close up; thanks to the Illuminated River project! This photo looks towards the south of the river and while the view in the background has changed since the 1940s. Waterloo Bridge was build to last and is a valuable connection point in linking the north to the south of London. I wanted to capture the connection from north to south via architectural bend within the bridge as it was said the bend was a hard part of the design, but thankfully 25000 ladies during the war didn’t mind risking their life’s to build this bridge when they were living in a world that was not use to female construction workers and this bridge is standing the test of time beautifully.
