13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
The March

The Maha Kumbh Festival is held once every 12 years in Allahabad where saints and 'God Men' from all over converge to take a dip in the holy Ganges on special dates. This is an image of the 'Naga' Sadhus (saints) who were marching out of their camp for the dip. This sect is usually in the nude, but I've been careful and opted to post this image where nudity is not shown and at the same time one can see the intense crowd.
