The Missed Homecoming

“The Missed Homecoming” is a photography project that tells the story of a girl whose parents have not returned home for a very long time. The work focuses on the psychological world of Tajik children left behind in China's border regions. In Tashkurgan, the local population management relies on a system of border guard posts, which requires most adults from indigenous communities to leave their traditional herding life behind and serve long-term duty at distant borders. Under this reality, the children, like the girl at the heart of the story, are left to care for one another in the prolonged absence of their parents. Today was supposed to be the day Sare‘s parents returned home a day that comes only once every four months But their bus ended its route early causing them to miss their chance to come back Now she crouches by the front gate waiting anxiously.
