This kid was collecting rags for hours near a temple. People came offered sweets to gods (idols) in temple but no one offered him a bite. After struggle of separating whatever could be kept for a meal from rotten fruits thrown on side of footpath, he picked this and looked as this was going to be the biggest meal of day. Indeed a mortal's fear.
