The only photo I took at Auschwitz.
I was at Auschwitz today for two hours. Our final stop was one of the unaltered sleeping buildings. Inside, standing in front of the wooden platform I imagined someone had slept there--maybe for a couple months or maybe for two weeks...but no our guide said, it was likely only for days before being exterminated. Looking closer, I noticed, written in the dust on that wood, was the word "Peace". For me, that one word holds my hope for those lost here and for all of us who create the future.
