The Piazza and Church of Santa Maria Maggiore
Basilica di S.Maria Maggiore is one of the first and the largest one in Rome built in honour of the Virgin Mary. After the period of the Avignon papacy, the buildings of the basilica became a temporary Palace of the Popes.
